Dear Parents and Guardians,

We appreciate your interest in the Early French Immersion program at Banff Trail School. Due to a higher number of registrations for kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year, we will hold a lottery to confirm enrolment.

We understand that this news may be a surprise and the concerns this may bring. We are committed to making this process as fair, transparent and equitable as possible.

The CBE lottery process is designed to give all students an equal opportunity to secure a place in our school. Students are prioritized based on their home address and whether they have a sibling already attending. The priorities are as follows:

Priority 1

  • Students residing within the walk zone with a sibling attending the school at the same time.

Priority 2

  • Students living outside the walk zone who have a sibling in the same program at the same school at the same time OR
  • Students living within the walk zone who do not have a sibling in the school/program.

Priority 3

  • All other students living in the school's designated community or catchment area.

Key Dates & Process

  • The lottery draw will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.
  • To be considered, registrations must be submitted through SchoolEngage by 12 p.m. (noon) on the day before the draw.
  • Multiple staff members, including the school principal or a designated administrator, will supervise the lottery.
  • Each registration will be assigned a number, and our school will maintain accurate lottery records and a call-back list.
  • Please register with your designated regular program school in addition to your alternative program choices. If your child is unsuccessful in the lottery draw(s), they will be assigned to their regular program school. Register before the lottery deadline, as some regular program schools are also running a lottery.
  • If you have submitted expressions of interest for multiple alternative programs, wait for offers from all alternative programs and your regular program school before accepting one. Once you accept an offer, other offers are automatically declined.
