Registration at Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools is not determined on a first come, first served basis. Registration and admission to schools in CBE is governed by the Education Act and Administrative Regulation 6090 | Child and Student Registration and Admission.
The Early French Immersion Program offered at Banff Trail School is an alternative program.
Kindergarten AM/PM Assignment
The assignment of students to either AM or PM Kindergarten considers many factors, including parent/guardian stated preference during the enrollment process, creation of balanced classes (in terms of overall number of students, number of students who are learning English as an Additional Language, gender, etc.), and the need to allocate students to PM Kindergarten when they are also enrolled in the in-school, daytime childcare program (provided by Kids Come First). As much as possible, we aim to allocate based on any stated parent/guardian preference when registration occurs during the registration window (ie prior to Teachers’ Convention/Family Day Weekend); registration that occurs after that point will be subject to the creation and maintenance of balanced classrooms (as described above).
Note as well that as per CBE Administrative Regulation 6090, any out-of-attendance area children who are being registered for Kindergarten will not be confirmed as accepted into our Kindergarten program until approximately May, subject to space and resources.
