The first day of Carnaval at Banff Trail School will be Monday, February 9th, 2026.
Students are invited to wear Carnaval-themed clothing such as plaid shirts, toques, moccasins or slippers, arrowed sashes or scarves tied around waists from February 9th to 11th.
Carnaval activities for students and staff may include: bracelet making, les bonhommes gigueurs, weaving, singing and dancing to traditional French-Canadian music, hockey, broomball, relays and more. To support student participation in outdoor activities, please ensure proper outdoor footwear and warm layers are worn each day to school.
Our first Carnaval event is scheduled for Monday, February 9th where students will enjoy a traditional maple toffee treat served on snow from the Cabane à sucre. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Folklofolie will present traditional songs and dances to the school. There will be workshops for each grade level and a performance by Folklofolie for our students. Bonhomme will also be making special appearances throughout the Carnaval celebrations!
A big thank you to Banff Trail School Council for funding our Cabane à sucre, and our performers. Also, a warm acknowledgement to our volunteers for their time.
